National & International Masonry Associations

The Brick Industry Association - The Brick Industry Association is a trade organization that represents brick manufacturers and distributors. This site provides information on brick construction for homeowners as well as architects, designers and builders.

The Cast Stone Institute - The Cast Stone Institute is an organization of Cast Stone Manufacturers, Associates, Professional Architects, Engineers and Concrete Technologists formed for the purpose of improving the quality of cast stone and providing information regarding its uses. 

Council for Masonry Research - The Council for Masonry Research was formed to provide a leadership role in the development of material and construction related research designed to increase and preserve markets for masonry materials. This site provides online access to research reports. 

The International Masonry Institute - IMI is a labor/management cooperative of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers and the Contractors who employ its members. This site provides guides on several areas of masonry construction.

Marble Institute of America - The Marble Institute of America represents producers, distributors, and installers of natural stone products.

Mason's Contractors Association of America - The MCAA is a trade association representing masonry contractors. Their site contains information on Masonry Magazine as well as the Masonry Show. 

Masonry Advisory Council - This group provides information concerning the technical aspects, design and cost of masonry construction.

National Concrete Masonry Association - NCMA is a trade association of producers of concrete masonry products, and suppliers of products and services related to the industry. This website provides information concerning the use and application of concrete masonry units. 

National Lime Association - Trade industry for lime companies. Contains recommended specifications for mortar and stucco in a downloadable PDF file. 

National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association - The NSSGA represents the interests of the aggregate (crushed stone, sand and gravel) and mining industries.

Portland Cement Association - Information on the production of portland cement and on stucco formulation and applications. 

The Masonry Society - TMS is an international gathering of people interested in the art and science of masonry. The Masonry Society offers a number of technical publications related to masonry. 

Building codes

International Code Council - The International Code Council (ICC) was established in 1994 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing a single set of comprehensive and coordinated national model construction codes. These codes were developed in a joint effort of three previous building code organizations: Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), and Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc. (SBCCI). Codes developed by this organization are used in many parts of the United States. 

Masonry Standards Joint Committee - The Masonry Standards Joint Committee developes consensus based standards regarding code language and design of masonry construction.

American Society for Testing and Materials

RILEM - RILEM is an International, non-profit association which provides a network of communication throughout 70 countries, to bring specialists from research and industry to promote progress in the design testing, manufacture and use of building materials. 

Australian Standards

Standards Council of Canada - Also links to French, German, and British Standards.

Restoration

Association for Preservation Technology - APT is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to "advancing the application of technology to the conservation of the built environment." 

International Council on Monuments & Sites - ICOMOS fosters heritage conservation and historic preservation at the national and international level through education and training, international exchange of people and information, technical assistance, documentation, advocacy and other activities consistent with the goals of ICOMOS and through collaboration with other organizations. 

The Ghetty Conservation Institute - The Ghetty Conservation Institute Information Center holds over 25,000 volumes and offers a comprehensive selection of information in the areas of conservation and preservation. This site also has good links to other conservation sites. 

Institute for Research in Construction (IRC) - Durable Masonry research information. Includes freeze-thaw research reports for restoration mortars. 

National Park Service - Use the search engine on this site to provide information on "lime mortar." 

National Trust For Historic Preservation - The National Trust for Historic Preservation is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting historic buildings and the neighborhoods they anchor. Use the term "lime" in the site's search engine to explore lime restoration projects.

Building Conservation (UK) - This European site contains several articles on the use of lime in mortars.

Building Limes Forum - This European organization is dedicated to promoting further understanding of the use of lime in building applications.
